UNDER 18 INTERNATIONALS

The Under 18 internationals have become an important feature of the British Isles Bowling calendar as it offers young developing players the chance to compete against those of the same age from different nations. It has seen numerous players progress into the U25 International Team and Full Senior International squads, proving to be a great platform for those wanting to continue their bowls career into future years.

The 2023 Under 18 Internationals will be held at RTB Ebbw Vale Bowling Club on the 5th-6th August. The series will see players from England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland compete in a series of mixed disciplines.

Team Wales: C Dunne, E Mitchell, H Deem, K Dickinson, L Viles, R Thompson, B Flynn, J Mounty, C Gowen, R Day, J Davies, T Gunter.

Under 18 England V Wales, 2015.

The series originally only consisted of England and Wales. In recent years Scotland and Ireland joined the event.

The first test match was held at Royal Wootton Bassett Bowls Club in 2015. Team England: Liam Harris, James Fuge, Louis McCubbin, John Yates, Harry Goodwin, Tom Holmes, Chloe Brett, Rebecca Moorbey, Imogen Jenner, Katy Smith, Anna Hall and Leah Bamford. Team Wales: Dan Williams, Aaron Lloyd, Shane Hill, Rhys Roberts, Joe Coles, Alis Butten, Jodie McCarthy, Jasmine Staton, Katie Thomas and Lowri Powell.

Since that 2015 test-match players from both these squads have gone on to win national and international titles as well as receiving many more caps for their countries. Harry Goodwin has gone on to win European medals, he is the current World Indoor Junior Singles Champion and English Indoor National Singles Champion. Tom Holmes was recently named as the England Under 25 Captain. Rebecca Moorbey won two national singles titles last summer at the Bowls England National Finals in the Open Singles and U25 Singles. From Wales, Lowri Powell is the current Welsh indoor open pairs champion while Katie Thomas and Jodie McCarthy have gone on to win the U25 Singles trophy respectively indoor and outdoor. Hari Butten and Lauren Gowen have gone on to receive their full U25 International Caps. Lauren received her first senior outdoor cap in Ayr recently. (2018)
