Ross Owen introducing lawn bowls to schools across South Wales
Earlier this year, Welsh bowler Ross Owen was selected as part of the Team Wales Athletes Commission. Ross, along with 12 other athletes from 11 different sports will be a part of the voice for athletes as Team Wales prepare for Trinbago 2023 and Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games.
As part of his role, Ross is taking lawn bowls into various schools across South Wales by getting classes to have a go. Ross said, “I’m thoroughly enjoying my role on the AC, having worked with a few schools lately and seeing the enjoyment the children get from trying bowls and having us athletes there teaching them is amazing.” During his most recent visit to Oak Field Primary, he was joined by Welsh netball player Suzy Drane.
Ross Owen is a recent Commonwealth Games medalist having won a bronze medal at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. A vital part of his role on the athletes commission is looking ahead to the Commonwealth Games, he said “I am looking forward to working towards the Youth Games later this year in Trinidad and Tobago and then further ahead towards Victoria 2026.” He hopes his visits to schools will inspire the next generation to take up the sport.
